
Museum 1000 moko in Kalabahi, Alor Regency East Nusa Tenggara Province was built during the administration of former Alor Regent, Ir. Ansgerius Takalapeta and inaugurated by former East Nusa Tenggara Governor, Piet A. Tallo, SH on May 04, 2004.
Like the function of museums in general, Museum 1000 Moko is the effort of Alor Regency to survive cultural heritage that begins endangered because many of them have been taken out of the area for sale.
Until now, the museum is the pride of Nusa Kenari community which stands majestically at Jln. Diponegoro, Nusa Kenari district, Teluk Mutiara Sub-district has collected 415 objects from all ethnic cultures in Alor Regency.
The collections consist of various types of moko/nekara (kettledrum), fossils, traditional weapons, cannons, creese, samurai, various types of marine objects, agriculture, ceramics and pottery, Patola and various kinds of motifs and Alor typical colored ikat weaving.
There is a kind of the biggest moko (nekara) Heger I-type discovered on August 20, 1972 by Simon J. Oil Balol based on the instruction of dream in which its surface has a symbol of frog made of brass material. Scientifically, such moko came from Dongsong, Vietnam.
This time, in around the location of the discovery of Moko, also discovered a kind of shrine stupa that recently becomes a research object of Archeology Agency from Bali and Jakarta.
